Abstract:
Works for piano and pre-recorded tape began appearing in the 1960s culminating from the advancements in electronic music technology as well as aesthetic dissatisfaction with the loudspeaker concert. Since then, performers of electroacoustic works are afforded with two different performance approaches. Also, presenting any works for piano and pre-recorded tape is similar to those of solo piano recital. Following the practice found in the Western Art musical tradition, musical elements such as the extended performance technique as well as the use of the programme note could also be seen in works for piano and pre-recorded tape. This lecture-recital will survey four works written in the early twenty-first century. A brief historical overview of electroacoustic music, the use of programme note, the existence of programmatic elements, and performance approaches involving the piano and pre-recorded tape are examined.
