Chan Wei Tuck Music Works

Chan Wei Tuck is a Malaysian pianist and composer whose work encompasses both performance and composition. He holds Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in piano performance from West Virginia University, where he studied under James Miltenberger and Christine Kefferstan. His piano studies in Malaysia were guided by Lee Yin Hwa.

His artistic development was also shaped by interactions with distinguished pianists Tan Siok Lian, Ng Chong Lim, Scott Beard, Lisa Emenheiser, Julie Bees, Stephan Möller, and Murray McLachlan. He studied composition with David Taddie, whose influence contributed to his interest in contemporary musical expression.

As a composer, Wei Tuck won the Free Hand 2022: Second Malaysian Contemporary Composers Piano Festival and received third prize in the International Professional Category of the 2019 Golden Key Piano Composition Competition. His commissioned works include Motion, selected as the test piece for the senior category of the Fifth UCSI University International Piano Festival and Competition, and Perhentian No. 1, inspired by a painting of the same title by Malaysian artist Suzlee Ibrahim and commissioned by the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (ASWARA).

Through his work as a pianist and composer, Wei Tuck seeks to contribute to Malaysia’s evolving musical landscape, exploring diverse artistic perspectives and expanding the expressive possibilities of contemporary piano music.
